How to Clear a tub drain with an auger through the tub drain?

Previous we discuss about Cleaning a Faucet Aerator and Sink Sprayer. Today we talk about Clearing a tub drain with an auger through the tub drain.

Let's read how to do step by step.

1.

Remove the strainer cover by unscrewing the retaining screw.

2.

Remove the drain basket with a basket wrench.

3.

Push the auger cable into the drain. Shower drains have a trap a few inches below the shower floor, so you may feel resistance as you push.

4.

Keep pushing the auger cable into the drain until you can’t move the cable in any farther. Leave about 6 inches of excess cable coming out of the shower drain.

5.

Tighten the auger screw and then turn the auger handle clockwise. Put pressure on the cable as you turn the handle in order to snag or loosen the clog to send it down the drain.

6.

Remove the auger and run hot water down the drain. Repeat as needed until the drain runs freely.

7.

Reinstall the strainer support and strainer cover.
